RRC Southern Railway Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 — 67 Posts

The Railway Recruitment Cell (RRC), Southern Railway, Chennai has released Employment Notice No. RRC-02/Sports/2026-27 for the recruitment of 67 sportspersons against the Sports Quota. Online applications are invited from eligible sportspersons for posts in Level 5/4, Level 3/2 and Level 1 of the 7th CPC pay matrix. The online application window opens on 26 September 2026 at 09:00 Hrs and closes on 25 October 2026 at 23:59 Hrs. Applications can be submitted only through the online link on the RRC Chennai website, rrcmas.in; no physical applications will be accepted. The 67 vacancies cover nine disciplines — Athletics, Boxing, Cricket, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Cue Sports — with 5 posts in Level 5/4, 16 posts in Level 3/2 and 46 posts in Level 1. Selected candidates will be placed only at the minimum of pay in the respective level. The Sports Trials date and venue will be announced on rrcmas.in. Candidates must read the official notification carefully before applying, because separate fees and documents are required for each discipline, game or event applied for, and separate fees apply for posts in different Pay Levels.

Eligibility, Age Limit and Sports Norms

Eligibility differs by Pay Level. For Level 1, candidates must have passed 10th or hold ITI or an equivalent qualification or NAC (NCVT). For Level 3/2, candidates need 12th (+2) pass or an equivalent qualification, or Matriculation with a Course Completed Act Apprenticeship (technical), or Matriculation with ITI approved by NCVT or SCVT (technical). For Level 5/4, a Graduation degree is required. The qualification must be from a Government-recognised institution, and there is no relaxation in the minimum educational qualification. Candidates awaiting results or final examinations are not eligible. Applicants must be 18 to 25 years old as on 01 January 2027, meaning they must have been born between 02 January 2002 and 01 January 2009, both dates inclusive. There is no age relaxation — upper or lower — for any community, and the date of birth must match the SSC, SSLC, Matriculation or 10th certificate. Sports achievements must have been earned on or after 01 April 2024 up to the notification date, in the current or immediate previous two financial years, and the sportsperson must be an active player. The concluding day of a championship counts for validity. Championships must be held under the aegis of recognised International or National Federations and recognised by the Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB).

Selection Process, Fee and How to Apply

Selection is through Sports Trials, which test game skill, physical fitness and the coach's observation, followed by assessment of recognised sports achievements and educational qualification. Only candidates declared FIT in the Trials move forward. Marks are split out of 100: Trials 40, sports achievements 50 and educational qualification 10. In the Trials, a candidate scoring 25 or more out of 40 is FIT, while below 25 means NOT FIT, and NOT FIT candidates are not assessed further. The minimum qualifying marks are 70 for Level 5/4, 65 for Level 3/2 and 60 for Level 1. In a tie, the younger candidate is preferred. Shortlisted candidates then face Document Verification and Medical Examination, and must fulfil the minimum medical norms for the post. Appointees serve a probation of 2 years, extendable by up to 2 more years on unsatisfactory sports performance, and a 5-year Service Bond applies. The application fee is Rs 500 for all candidates except the fee-concession categories, and Rs 250 for SC, ST, Women, Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Disabilities, Minority community and Economically Backward Classes candidates. Candidates who appear in the Trials get a refund, after deducting bank charges: Rs 400 on the Rs 500 fee and Rs 250 on the Rs 250 fee. The fee is payable online only, by Debit Card, Credit Card or Internet Banking, and transaction charges are borne by the candidate. To apply, visit rrcmas.in, register with a valid personal email ID and mobile number, fill the form, upload self-attested educational and sports certificates, date-of-birth proof, caste or fee-exemption proof, a recent colour photograph and signature as per the prescribed specifications, pay the fee and submit the form before the last date.
